Jersey launches £31m digital asset strategy to diversify economy
Jersey is implementing a £31 million strategy titled ‘Time to Win’ to diversify its economy through digital assets. The initiative, aimed at countering competition from hubs like Dubai and Singapore, focuses on the tokenization of real-world assets and stablecoins.
Financial services currently drive over 50% of the island’s economic output and account for 40% of its workforce, resulting in a GDP per capita nearly 60% higher than the UK average. To manage this transition, the Jersey Financial Services Commission is integrating digital assets into its existing supervisory framework, applying the same anti-money laundering and compliance standards used for traditional finance. As of October 2025, 14 Virtual Asset Service Providers had been authorized on the island.
Despite the economic wealth, the island faces internal challenges. Data shows a significant rise in residents requiring food assistance from organizations like St Vincent de Paul and the Salvation Army. Additionally, Jersey’s reputation as a low-tax jurisdiction remains a point of international scrutiny, frequently appearing in tax haven rankings and past data leaks.
