Jersey launches diabetes prevention programme

Public Health Jersey has introduced the Jersey Diabetes Prevention Programme (JDPP), a new initiative designed to help up to 500 residents at risk of developing type 2 diabetes. The nine-month programme targets individuals diagnosed with prediabetes, a condition where blood sugar levels are elevated but below the threshold for a full diagnosis.

Delivered by DDM Health, the programme provides personalised coaching in areas such as nutrition, physical activity, sleep, mental health, and wellbeing. Support is available through face-to-face, digital, and remote methods, including assistance in multiple languages. Participants can also utilize the GRO Health app for ongoing education.

The initiative is part of the government’s ‘Prevention First’ strategy, which emphasizes early intervention and diagnosis to improve long-term community health. Diabetes Jersey, which funded participant resources, has welcomed the launch, noting that early lifestyle changes can significantly improve long-term health outcomes.
