Jersey Shore issued high risk rip current advisory
A high risk of life-threatening rip currents is in effect for the Jersey Shore through Saturday evening. Forecasters warn of dangerous swimming and surfing conditions due to large breaking waves.
Conditions include waves reaching up to 12 feet in the surf zone. Winds from the northeast are expected to range between 22 and 30 mph, with significant gusts possible. Marine forecasts indicate seas building between 10 and 16 feet, particularly during overnight periods.
Authorities advise beachgoers to obey all posted flags, use flotation devices when entering the surf zone, and swim parallel to the shoreline if caught in a current.
