Jerusalem balcony collapse kills 80-year-old man, injures five

A balcony on the second floor of a three‑story residential building in Jerusalem's Rehavia district gave way and fell onto a ground‑floor restaurant on Monday morning. Emergency crews from United Hatzalah, Magen David Adom and ZAKA responded, finding an approximately 80‑year‑old man trapped under the rubble. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Five other people – an elderly woman and two teenagers among them – sustained light injuries and were taken to Shaare Zedek Hospital.

Civilians helped pull two victims from the debris before responders arrived. Police closed nearby streets to aid rescue and investigation work. Authorities have opened a probe into the cause of the collapse and its implications for building safety in the historic neighbourhood.
