Netanyahu and thousands of Israelis visit Burak Wall in East Jerusalem
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and several government ministers visited the Burak Wall in East Jerusalem under heavy security. The visit coincided with thousands of Israelis participating in religious rituals known as ‘Selihot’ ahead of the Jewish holiday Yom Kippur.
According to the Jerusalem Governorate, Israeli security forces implemented strict measures in the Old City, effectively turning the area into a military zone to protect the large groups of Israelis entering via Wadi Street. Concurrently, hundreds of settlers entered the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound through the Maghariba Gate to perform Talmudic rituals.
Hamas condemned the visit, describing it as a ‘dangerous escalation’ and a direct attack on the identity and status of the Al-Aqsa Mosque. In response to the increased Israeli presence and religious activities, Palestinian authorities issued calls for residents to gather at the mosque to protect its sanctity and counter occupation plans.
