Jerusalem launches first section of Green Line light rail

Jerusalem has launched the first section of its Green Line (L3), significantly expanding the city's light rail network. The new 7-kilometer route connects the HaTurim station near the Mahane Yehuda market to the Malha district in the south.

The line includes 13 stations, 12 of which are new. During peak hours, trains are expected to run every eight minutes. This expansion follows months of delays attributed to the ongoing war. The route serves several major hubs, including the International Convention Center (ICC), the government complex, the Hebrew University of Jerusalem's Givat Ram campus, the Botanical Gardens, Teddy Stadium, and the Malha shopping center.

Passengers can transfer to the existing Red Line (L1), the Israel Railways, and the municipal bus network at two specific stations. In accordance with local practice, the light rail will not operate on Shabbat. Future expansions are planned, including the L4 line scheduled for December and further extensions to Mount Scopus, Givat Shaul, and Har Nof through 2027.
