Jesolo Unveils AMX ‘Ghibli’ Jet as New City Landmark

On July 28, the Italian Air Force’s AMX “Ghibli” jet was installed at the roundabout of Viale del Marinaio, near Via Aldo Policek, marking the city’s new entry‑point monument. The ceremony was organized by the municipality of Jesolo, the Aeronautica Militare, and the local Club Frecce Tricolori, and attended by Mayor Christofer De Zotti, Brigadier General Luca Giuseppe Vitaliti, and Colonel Marco Mangini, commander of the 51st Stormo of Istrana.

The AMX, a single‑engine aircraft developed in the 1980s through an Italy‑Brazil partnership, served for decades in missions across the Balkans, Afghanistan, Iraq and Libya before retiring in 2024. Its permanent display is intended to preserve the memory of Italy’s military aviation heritage and strengthen the link between Jesolo and the 51st Stormo.
