Jesperi Kotkaniemi lifts Stanley Cup in Finland despite not playing in playoffs

The Carolina Hurricanes captured the Stanley Cup, ending the season with a championship that sparked mixed reactions among fans. Forward Jesperi Kotkaniemi, who appeared in 42 regular‑season games but did not play in the postseason, initially disabled comments on his Instagram post showing the trophy after the victory. He later reopened the comment section when he posted a photo with the Cup in his hometown of Pori, Finland, embracing both supportive and critical feedback.

The Cup then resumed its tour, traveling back to the United States Midwest. Jackson Blake is slated to hold the trophy on July 30, followed by K’Andre Miller on August 1. Additional hockey news includes Charlie Cerrato representing the Hurricanes at the NHLPA Rookie Showcase in Chicago and defenseman Cal Foote signing with Sweden’s Färjestad BK after leaving the AHL.

Kotkaniemi’s celebration highlights the personal side of championship honors for players who contributed during the regular season but missed the playoff run.
