Jesús ‘Apache’ Medina killed in Cancún shooting

Jesús Medina Mendoza, a prominent figure in Mexican American football known as ‘Apache’ Medina, was fatally shot in Cancún, Quintana Roo, on Saturday, September 19. The attack occurred in a parking area behind Plaza Galerías in Supermanzana 2, near his dental practice, DentalMed.

According to reports, Medina had just finished his workday and was standing near his vehicle when two individuals on a motorcycle approached him. One of the assailants fired directly at him before the attackers fled the scene. Emergency responders confirmed that Medina had no vital signs upon arrival.

Medina was a highly respected athlete and coach. He was a standout defensive player for teams including Prepa 9 of the UNAM, Águilas Reales, and Condores UNAM, and was a three-time Tazón Azteca national team selection. Following his playing career, he served as a coach for the Leones of Universidad Anáhuac Cancún. He was also a practicing dentist.

The Fiscalía General del Estado de Quintana Roo has opened an investigation into the homicide.
