Jesús Martínez Álvarez, former interim governor of Oaxaca, dies at 81
Jesús Martínez Álvarez, the former interim governor of Oaxaca, passed away in Oaxaca de Juárez at the age of 81.
Martínez Álvarez held several significant public offices throughout his career. He served as the interim governor of Oaxaca from November 1985 to November 1986 following the resignation of Pedro Vázquez Colmenares. His previous roles included municipal president of Oaxaca de Juárez (1978–1980), Secretary General of Government for the state (1980–1985), and federal deputy.
In addition to his work in Oaxaca, he held positions in Mexico City, including Secretary General of Government for the former Federal District and delegate in Venustiano Carranza. He later returned to Oaxaca to serve as Secretary General of Government under Gabino Cué Monteagudo from 2011 to 2013, a position from which he resigned due to internal political differences.
