Jesús Nader Nasrallah eyes return to Tampico mayoralty in 2027

Federal Deputy Jesús “Chucho” Nader Nasrallah of the National Action Party (PAN) is emerging as a leading candidate for the 2027 Tampico mayoral election. His potential return to the municipal government is reportedly causing shifts within opposing political parties.

The political positioning comes amid rising insecurity in the port city. During Nader Nasrallah’s previous six-year term as mayor, Tampico was ranked among the top two safest municipalities in Mexico. In contrast, the city’s current security ranking has declined to between ninth and tenth place nationally, a situation that has reportedly led some citizens to attempt to take justice into their own hands.
