Jesús Nazareno faces waste accumulation and health concerns
Residents and merchants in the Jesús Nazareno district of Huamanga are reporting a significant accumulation of solid waste that has persisted for over a week. The buildup is particularly concentrated around the local market and residential streets near ongoing road and sidewalk construction projects.
Local vendors and neighbors have noted that decomposing waste is attracting flies and raising concerns about the presence of rodents. The Ministry of Health has issued warnings that such accumulations can facilitate the proliferation of vectors like cockroaches and rodents, which are capable of transmitting diseases.
While residents acknowledge the ongoing infrastructure works in the sector, they maintain that waste collection services were functioning normally prior to the current situation. Community members are calling on the municipality to restore regular collection services to mitigate health risks and prevent waste from remaining in public spaces.
