Jesse Beale denied third bail bid in Brisbane River murder case

Jesse Wahlen Beale has made a third unsuccessful bid for bail in connection with the alleged murder of his former partner, Crystal Beale. The case involves the 2025 death of the 49-year-old mother-of-two, whose body was allegedly discovered in the Brisbane River near Orleigh Park in West End.

Defense barrister Saul Holt KC argued that new evidence from expert witness Professor John Duflou, which suggested drowning could not be excluded as a cause of death, “dramatically changes the picture” for the prosecution. The defense also cited factors such as the deceased's history of self-harm and substance abuse to challenge the prosecution's allegations.

Despite these arguments, Justice Patrick McAfferty refused the bail application. The prosecution maintained that the new evidence did not detract from their conclusions regarding the alleged murder.
