Jesse Eisenberg’s ‘The Debut’ to open 2026 Woodstock Film Festival

Jesse Eisenberg’s new comedy, ‘The Debut’, is gaining momentum following successful screenings at the Telluride, Toronto, and New York film festivals. The film, produced by A24, stars Julianne Moore as Mona, a repressed New Jersey mother who finds community and visibility through a local musical theater production. Moore’s performance alongside Paul Giamatti has received significant critical acclaim.

Eisenberg, who wrote and directed the film, noted that he created the project specifically for Moore, inspired by her unique vocal qualities and acting style. The story is partially inspired by Eisenberg’s own childhood experiences with community theater in New Jersey.

The Woodstock Film Festival has announced that ‘The Debut’ will serve as the opening night attraction for its 2026 edition. The film is scheduled for a theatrical release on December 11.
