Jesse Marsch sets top-24 ranking goal for Canada soccer
Canada men's national soccer team head coach Jesse Marsch has outlined ambitious goals for the upcoming four-year World Cup cycle. Marsch stated that a primary objective is to elevate the team into the top 24 global rankings. Achieving this position would allow Canada to enter the 2030 World Cup in pot two, providing a more favorable group draw and increasing their chances of success.
To reach these targets, Marsch emphasized the need for consistent performance in major competitions and the scheduling of friendlies against high-level opponents. The team is preparing for upcoming matches against Chile, Peru, and the United States. Marsch also expressed a desire to secure a major men's trophy for the nation, marking the first such win since the 2000 Gold Cup.
In line with long-term development, Marsch is focusing on integrating young talent into the senior squad. Toronto FC defender Richard Chukwu has been called into the senior camp for the first time. Marsch noted the urgency of Chukwu's development, stating that the prospect needs to prepare for the senior level immediately to potentially become a fixture for the 2030 World Cup.
