Jesse Owen, 70, Dies in Chipping Campden Fire

A large field fire broke out behind Berrington Road in Chipping Campden, Gloucestershire, on the night of 3 August. Thirteen fire engines from Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service and neighbouring brigades, along with three ambulances and an air ambulance, responded to the blaze that threatened nearby homes.

The fire claimed the life of a local man in his 70s, identified as Jesse Owen (also known as Francis Owens). Police confirmed he died at the scene and said no third‑party involvement was suspected. The victim’s family described him as a hard‑working gardener and “Renaissance Man” of the Cotswolds, expressing deep heartbreak over his loss.

Deputy Chief Fire Officer Nathaniel Hooton and representatives from the South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust praised the multi‑agency response and offered condolences to the family and community.
