Jessica Kido pleads guilty to manslaughter in toddler's fentanyl death
Jessica Kido, a 35-year-old woman from Oak Harbor, has pleaded guilty in Island County Superior Court to first-degree manslaughter, possession of fentanyl with intent to deliver, and 10 counts of unlawful firearm possession. The charges stem from the death of a 2-year-old boy in May, who died from acute fentanyl intoxication.
According to police reports, Kido called 911 on May 24 after discovering the toddler with blood coming from his mouth and nose. The child was transported to WhidbeyHealth Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. An autopsy identified acute fentanyl intoxication as the immediate cause of death. A 4-year-old child present in the apartment at the time was unharmed and placed in protective custody.
Under a plea agreement, prosecutors and the defense have jointly recommended a prison sentence of 10 years and five months. The sentencing hearing is scheduled for December 1.
