Jessica Killin wins historic Democratic victory in Colorado Springs
Jessica Killin, an Army veteran and former US Army paratrooper, has been elected to the US House of Representatives in a district covering Colorado Springs. This victory marks the first time a Democrat has won this seat since its creation in 1970.
Killin’s campaign focused on affordability, demographic shifts, and voter frustrations regarding the war in Iran, tariffs, and political corruption. Her win is noted as a significant shift in a region characterized by five military installations and a large population of veterans and service members.
The district has seen increased ethnic diversity and a younger, more highly educated electorate over the last four decades. Killin defeated Republican incumbent Jeff Crank, who had campaigned against her by suggesting her victory would make the community more like Democratic-controlled Denver or Boulder.
