Jessie Diggins wins Superior 100 Mile Trail Race in ultrarunning debut
Former American cross-country skiing star Jessie Diggins has won the Superior 100 Mile Trail Race in her ultrarunning debut. The 34-year-old athlete completed the brutal course in Minnesota in 25 hours, 9 minutes, and 36 seconds.
The race covered approximately 163 kilometers with 5,290 meters of elevation gain. Diggins’ winning time marks the eighth-best female performance in the history of the event.
Following her retirement from professional skiing in March, Diggins credited her support team for helping her navigate extremely difficult periods during the race where she struggled to communicate coherently. She noted that while her body felt as though it was falling apart, her signature glitter remained intact until the finish line.
