Jesuit Superior General Arturo Sosa visits Ghana

Arturo Sosa, the Superior General of the Society of Jesus, conducted a four-day official visit to Ghana, including engagements at the Arrupe Jesuit Institute (AJI) in Accra and St. Ignatius School.

During a briefing at the Arrupe Jesuit Institute, AJI leadership outlined the organization’s 2026–2029 Strategic Plan. The institute, established in 2018, focuses on research, formation, and social action informed by Catholic Social Teaching. Key areas of work include migration research, integral ecology, youth formation, and environmental policy. The institute aims to strengthen its impact through advocacy, human rights, and child protection while seeking to improve funding and institutional capacity.

At St. Ignatius School, Father Sosa emphasized that education must promote justice and human development. He called for an educational system that equips students with the values and skills necessary to contribute to national development and peaceful coexistence. He highlighted the Jesuit tradition of developing competence, conscience, compassion, and commitment to prepare individuals to serve humanity and build a more just society.
