Jesus Hospital delivers high-risk patient after 25 hospitals decline care

A pregnant woman in her 35th week of gestation was successfully delivered at Jesus Hospital in Jeonju after being rejected by 25 different hospitals across the Gyeonggi, Seoul, and Chungcheong regions.

The emergency began in the early hours of August 1 in Anseong, Gyeonggi Province, when the woman reported leaking amniotic fluid. Due to the high risk of premature birth and fetal infection, emergency responders sought a facility capable of providing integrated care for high-risk mothers and newborns. However, medical staff and available beds could not be immediately secured at any of the 25 contacted institutions.

Following a request from the Fire Agency, Jesus Hospital agreed to accept the patient. The woman was transported approximately 150 kilometers via a firefighting helicopter, arriving at the hospital at 5:16 AM. A collaborative effort between the departments of obstetrics, pediatrics, and anesthesiology ensured the safety of both the mother and the infant.
