Jesy Nelson pushes UK newborn screening reform in new Prime Video documentary

Jesy Nelson’s upcoming Amazon Prime Video documentary, Jesy Nelson: Life Changing, premieres on 17 July. The film follows the former Little Mix singer as she campaigns to have spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) added to the United Kingdom’s newborn blood‑spot screening programme.

Nelson’s advocacy stems from her personal experience: her twin daughters, Ocean Jade and Story Monroe, were diagnosed with SMA shortly after birth. In the trailer she says she will feel “heartbroken for the rest of my life” and urges viewers to watch the series to support early‑diagnosis efforts. The documentary shows her lobbying for mandatory heel‑prick testing, describing how early treatment can dramatically improve outcomes for children with SMA.

The series also depicts her coping with the daily challenges of her daughters’ condition and her role as a single mother, aiming to raise public awareness and pressure UK health authorities to change screening policy.
