Jet Set nightclub collapse trial continues in Dominican Republic

The trial regarding the collapse of the Jet Set nightclub ceiling continues in the Dominican Republic, with Antonio and Maribel Espaillat facing charges related to the incident. The disaster, which occurred on April 8, 2025, resulted in 236 deaths and over 180 injuries.

During recent proceedings, forensic engineer Eduardo Adolfo Fierro testified that the collapse was caused by structural overloading, ruling out external factors such as earthquakes, heavy winds, rain, or previous fires. Evidence presented includes forensic analysis of mobile phones, videos, and audio recordings concerning the establishment's conditions, including reports of leaks and humidity.

Architect Segundo Imbert Piantini also testified regarding decorative work he performed at the venue in 2015 at the request of Antonio Espaillat. Legal representatives for the plaintiffs noted that the testimony was limited to the scope of the architectural decorations performed and did not involve structural studies. The prosecution has also presented experts to analyze social media activity from clients regarding the establishment.
