JetBlue board members depart following Icahn Enterprises stake reduction

JetBlue Airways has announced the immediate departure of board members Jesse Lynn and Steven Miller. The exits follow the terms of an agreement with Icahn Enterprises L.P., which requires the firm to maintain a minimum ownership level in JetBlue to retain board representation.

Reports indicate that Carl Icahn’s group has reduced its stake in the airline to 3.32%, down from an initial position of approximately 9.91% established in early 2024. This reduction in ownership triggered the loss of the two board seats. Following these departures, JetBlue’s board will consist of 11 members, 10 of whom are independent.

The leadership changes occur as JetBlue continues to execute its “JetForward” recovery strategy. The airline has recently faced operational challenges, including engine issues with Pratt & Whitney aircraft, high operating costs, and the failed merger attempt with Spirit Airlines.
