Jetstar conducts first test flight at Western Sydney International Airport
Jetstar has successfully conducted its first test flight at Western Sydney International (Nancy-Bird Walton) Airport. The A320 aircraft, operating as flight JQ7990 from Melbourne, landed at the facility to test taxi routes, gate access, aerobridges, and refueling procedures.
As part of the airport’s Operational Readiness Program, hundreds of community volunteers are participating in trials to stress-test terminal systems, including check-in, security screening, and baggage handling. These trials aim to ensure all processes are fail-safe before commercial operations commence on 25 October.
Western Sydney International will utilize a digital control tower, with air traffic monitoring conducted by personnel at a remote location in Eastern Creek. This infrastructure marks the airport as Australia’s first major international greenfield airport in over 50 years.
