Jetstar Japan reports record revenue amid operating loss
Jetstar Japan has reported record operating revenue of 81.61 billion yen for its fiscal year ending June 2026. Despite the increase in revenue, the airline experienced a decline in profits due to several external factors.
Factors contributing to the decrease in earnings include the weakening yen, global inflation, rising fuel costs driven by Middle Eastern tensions, and increased expenses related to changes in aircraft planning. Consequently, the company reported an operating loss of 4.272 billion yen, compared to a profit of 1.578 billion yen in the previous period. The net loss for the period stood at 4.182 billion yen.
On the operational side, the airline saw growth in passenger numbers, with 5.891 million paying passengers and an average load factor of 89.0%, both reaching record highs. To capitalize on inbound tourism demand, Jetstar Japan expanded its international routes from four to seven, including new services from Narita to Kaohsiung and the resumption of routes between Kansai and Manila, and Narita and Hong Kong. The company plans to continue expanding its international network, including a new Naha to Kaohsiung route scheduled for December 6.
