Jetstar launches points-based Business Class upgrades

Jetstar has launched ‘Classic Upgrades’, allowing Qantas Frequent Flyer members to use a fixed number of points to upgrade to Business Class on eligible international Boeing 787 Dreamliner flights. The initiative coincides with a fleet overhaul where Jetstar is more than doubling its Business Class cabin capacity from 21 to 44 seats per aircraft.

Successful upgrades include 30kg of checked baggage, in-flight meals, and priority boarding. At launch, upgrade costs vary by route, such as 37,000 points from Melbourne to Singapore and 45,300 points from Sydney to Osaka. The service is currently available for bookings made through the Jetstar website, with Qantas.com bookings expected to be supported in the future.

Jetstar Group CEO Steph Tully stated that the Boeing 787 refit will unlock tens of thousands of additional business class seats across the Asia-Pacific network annually, including routes to Seoul, Osaka, Colombo, and Phuket. Qantas Loyalty CEO Andrew Glance noted that expanding this option to Jetstar provides members with more ways to utilize their points.
