Jetstar to introduce new cabin baggage fees in 2027

Australian low-cost carrier Jetstar has announced a new baggage policy set to take effect on February 2, 2027. Under the new rules, passengers opting for a base fare will be able to carry a personal item under the seat for free, but those wishing to use the overhead compartments for cabin baggage weighing up to 10 kilograms will face additional charges.

The supplemental fee is expected to range between approximately 25 and 52 Australian dollars, depending on the specific route and when the service is purchased. This new option will also include priority boarding.

Jetstar, which is part of the Qantas Group, stated that the change is intended to provide passengers with more flexibility by allowing them to pay only for the specific services they require. This aligns with a broader industry trend among low-cost airlines to offer lower base fares while charging extra for amenities such as seat selection and larger cabin bags.
