Jett Lawrence to miss SMX Playoffs for ankle surgery

Jett Lawrence will miss all three rounds of the upcoming 2026 SuperMotocross (SMX) Playoffs due to a recurring right ankle injury. The 23-year-old Australian rider, competing for Honda HRC Progressive, is scheduled to undergo surgery on September 9 at the Steadman Clinic in Vail, Colorado.

Lawrence had previously injured the ankle in December 2025, causing him to miss the AMA SX Championship. Despite the injury, he competed in the full AMA Pro Motocross series, securing four race wins and finishing second in the overall standings behind his brother and teammate, Hunter Lawrence. However, the injury was aggravated during the season finale at Ironman Raceway, resulting in intense pain and instability.

Lawrence stated that the decision to sit out the SMX series was made to ensure his long-term career health and to return to being “pain-free” for next season. Following the surgery, specialists at the Steadman Clinic will oversee his rehabilitation.
