JetZero's blended‑wing‑body Z4 secures Gulf Air and Japan Airlines partnerships

U.S. aerospace firm JetZero is advancing its blended wing body (BWB) passenger aircraft, the Z4, which is designed for about 250 seats, a 5,000‑nautical‑mile range and up to 50 % lower fuel burn than conventional jets. Gulf Air of Bahrain has signed a letter of intent to purchase an undisclosed number of Z4s, aiming for early‑2020s deliveries that would support its Europe‑Asia network. Japan Airlines has joined the programme as a development partner, contributing to cabin layout, ground handling, maintenance and operational planning, though it has not placed an order yet. The project also benefits from a potential U.S. Export‑Import Bank commitment of up to $3 billion to finance JetZero’s new manufacturing complex in Greensboro, North Carolina, a facility that will span 743,000 sq ft and create more than 14,500 jobs. The Z4’s novel configuration combines the wing and fuselage into a single lift‑generating surface, featuring V‑shaped control surfaces and winglets that replace traditional ailerons.
