Jeweler prevents 200,000 lira gold scam in Konya

In the Karapınar district of Konya, a 78-year-old man named Necati Akyıldız was saved from a major telephone fraud attempt by a local jeweler and a plainclothes police officer.

Scammers contacted Akyıldız, claiming his identity had been stolen and used to issue fraudulent invoices. The perpetrators used personal details about his family to instill panic, eventually instructing him to sell his gold and transfer the funds via IBAN.

Akyıldız went to a jewelry shop with approximately 200,000 lira worth of gold. The jeweler, Önder Orman, became suspicious of Akyıldız's continuous phone conversations and the instructions he was receiving. Orman intervened to stop the transaction, and a plainclothes police officer who happened to be at the shop assisted in preventing the crime. The gold was returned safely to Akyıldız.
