Jewish Australians report isolation amid rising anti‑Semitism, says rabbi

Senior Rabbi Allison Conyer told Australia’s anti‑Semitism royal commission that Jewish children are being excluded from birthday parties, school events and social‑media groups simply because they are Jewish. She said friends “cancel” congregants who are not Zionists and that families are concealing trips to Israel and Jewish customs to avoid ridicule.

Conyer described bomb threats, hate messages such as “hunt the Jews”, and a 25 % drop in enrolments at preschools run by progressive synagogues, putting at least one service at risk of closure. She urged government funding for inter‑faith programs, noting a breakdown in dialogue after the Oct. 7, 2023 Hamas attacks.
