Jewish Brigade Files Complaint After Assaults During Milan Liberation Day March

During the April 25 Liberation Day march in Milan, members of the Jewish Brigade were subjected to physical attacks and verbal insults, prompting the group to abandon the procession under police escort. The brigade filed a criminal complaint against unknown perpetrators, citing possible offences such as private violence, defamation, injuries and even incitement to terrorism. The filing follows accusations that extremist far‑left groups, including CARC and communist‑supporting committees, had pre‑planned the aggression.

The incident sparked a political dispute. Davide Romano, director of the Jewish Brigade Museum, explained the decision to pursue legal action, while members of the left‑wing party Sinistra Italiana criticised the complaint, labeling it “unqualifiable.” Numerous Italian politicians and community leaders, including members of parliament and representatives of Jewish organisations, have voiced support for the brigade and called for a respectful and inclusive commemoration in future years.
