Jewish communities host outdoor Rosh Hashanah celebrations
Communities in New York and Connecticut are hosting outdoor Rosh Hashanah celebrations to mark the Jewish New Year.
In New York City, the Chabad Young Professionals of the Upper West Side organize ‘Shofar in the Park’ at the Naumburg Bandshell in Central Park. The annual event attracts approximately 1,200 attendees and features professional shofar-blowing by Haim Avitsur. The gathering includes traditional elements such as apples and honey to symbolize a sweet new year.
In West Hartford, Connecticut, Congregation Beth Israel hosts ‘Rosh Hashanah in the Park’ at Elizabeth Park. The family-friendly, public service features music with various instruments and includes ASL interpretation. The event is led by Rabbis Michael Pincus and Andi Fliegel, alongside guest Cantor Kerith Spencer-Shapiro.
