Jewish communities observe spiritual traditions ahead of High Holy Days

Jewish communities and educational institutions are engaging in various spiritual preparations ahead of the High Holy Days. At one congregation, adult learning sessions use the lens of celebrity apologies to explore the mechanics of genuine repentance and forgiveness. These discussions draw on Maimonides’ framework for confession and the psychological principles of taking responsibility without making excuses.

At Bruriah High School, students participated in a Yom Iyun program focused on strengthening personal connections with Hashem in anticipation of Rosh Hashanah. The program included student reflections on spiritual growth and personal experiences with faith, including a faculty member's perspective on finding strength through health challenges.
