Jewish communities prepare for Sukkot and Simchas Torah celebrations
Jewish communities are preparing for the celebrations of Sukkot and Simchas Torah. A special Hakafos Companion booklet has been released for community organizers, synagogue leaders, and individuals to print and distribute. The guide is intended to help participants follow the Hakafos dancing and enhance the holiday's festivities.
Historically, the joyous celebrations known as Simchat Beit Hasho'evah were centered around the water libation in the Holy Temple. While those specific Temple rituals ended with the destruction of the Second Temple, the tradition of dancing and rejoicing continues in synagogues worldwide. In areas such as Crown Heights, Brooklyn, these celebrations often involve dancing that extends from synagogues into the streets.
