Jewish community in Canada faces rising antisemitic threats
Three years after the Hamas terrorist attacks on Israel, the Jewish community in Canada has experienced a significant increase in antisemitic incidents and threats. These include physical assaults, shootings at Jewish schools, and firebombings at synagogues.
In Montreal, Temple Emanu-El-Beth Sholom was recently targeted in an arson attempt. Rabbi Lisa Grushcow noted that the security environment has changed drastically, with synagogue services now requiring emergency exit briefings and security guards conducting bag searches at religious events.
The Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS) reported in its 2025 annual report that several plots targeting Jewish institutions were disrupted, including the August 2025 arrest of a youth in Montreal who intended to target Jewish targets.
