Jewish Council and Amnesty submit to Australian Antisemitism Royal Commission

The Jewish Council of Australia submitted evidence to the Royal Commission into Antisemitism and Social Cohesion, warning that conflating all Jews with the actions of the Israeli government fuels hostility and urging a rejection of the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance definition of antisemitism. The council highlighted the diversity of views within the Jewish community, noting that both pro‑Zionist and critical perspectives exist and that far‑right extremism is a significant driver of hate.

Amnesty International Australia also lodged a submission, condemning all forms of racism and antisemitism and citing the December 2025 Bondi Beach attack, which killed 15 people and injured dozens, as a stark reminder of the need for stronger protections. Amnesty called for the commission’s work to strengthen safeguards for all racialised groups and to fulfil Australia’s obligations under international human‑rights law.
