Jewish New Year 5787 approaches with unique calendar configuration

The upcoming Jewish New Year, 5787, is characterized by a specific calendar configuration known as Zashah, where Rosh Hashanah begins on Shabbos. This year is a leap year containing both Adar I and Adar II, totaling 385 days.

In light of this calendar arrangement, several spiritual milestones are noted, including the 40th anniversary of the victory of Hei Teves 5747 and the 100th anniversary of the Chag HaGeulah of the Frierdiker Rebbe. To mark these occasions, many in the Chabad community are engaging in intensive study of the Rebbe’s Torah from the year 5736, which shares a similar calendar structure.

A new digital project by Lahak Hanochos has been launched to allow users to download and study the Rebbe’s sichos from the years 5747 and 5750. These years are highlighted due to their similar calendar alignment with the approaching 5787. The Rebbe previously noted that a year beginning on Shabbos carries a special spiritual influence, intended to permeate daily life and work with the sanctity of the Sabbath.
