Jewish religious leaders issue guidance for High Holidays

As the Jewish High Holidays approach, religious leaders are providing guidance on halachic practices for Yom Kippur and the Ten Days of Repentance (Aseres Yemei Teshuvah).

Rabbi Yaakov Goldstein of ShulchanAruchHarav.com, in partnership with Merkos Torah, is conducting a session focused on the medical and legal complexities of fasting. The discussion addresses specific guidelines for individuals with health constraints, including those who are pregnant, nursing, or managing conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure, or eating disorders.

Separately, Rav Micha Halevi, the Chief Rabbi of Petach Tikvah, is encouraging increased vigilance regarding kashrus standards during the Aseres Yemei Teshuvah. He noted that it is a longstanding practice to adopt additional stringencies in food and drink during this period to reflect a heightened state of spiritual closeness.
