Jewish students receive death threats after Halle synagogue blockade
Members of the Jewish Students Union Germany (JSUD) report receiving death threats and increased hostility following a blockade at a memorial service in Halle. The blockade prevented AfD politician Hans-Thomas Tillschneider from attending a commemoration at the Halle synagogue, marking the anniversary of the 2019 antisemitic attack.
JSUD Chairman Ron Dekel defended the action, stating that right-wing extremists have no place in a synagogue, particularly in front of survivors and victims' families. Dekel also noted that right-wing antisemitism, specifically from the AfD, constitutes the greatest threat to Jewish life in Germany.
Concurrently, the Halle public prosecutor's office is investigating participants of the blockade for suspected insults after they reportedly referred to Tillschneider as a 'Nazi'. Dekel indicated that the JSUD intends to involve the police regarding the death threats.
