Jezco Group chairman Joseph Ezeokafor ransom raised to N1.5bn

Kidnappers have increased the ransom demand for Chief Sir Joseph Ezeokafor, the chairman of Jezco Group, from N700 million to N1.5 billion.

Ezeokafor, a businessman in his seventies, was abducted in Anambra State approximately one week ago. He was reportedly taken at around 2:00 AM while traveling to a prayer ground for annual spiritual rejuvenation. The abduction occurred after he reportedly left his residence without his security detail.

According to sources close to the family, the initial ransom demand of N700 million was accepted in an attempt to secure his release. However, the abductors subsequently raised the amount to N1.5 billion and have since ceased communication with the family. As of the latest reports, the Anambra State Police Command and state government authorities have not issued an official statement regarding the incident.
