Jezco Group chairman released after Anambra kidnapping

Chief Sir Joseph Ebere Ezeokafor, chairman of the Jezco Group of Companies, and a Reverend Sister have been released following their abduction in Anambra State. The victims were taken by armed criminals at Ifite-Awka on Tuesday, August 4, while Ezeokafor was traveling to a prayer ground.

Reports indicate that the kidnappers initially demanded a ransom of ₦700 million before increasing the demand to ₦1.5 billion. It remains unclear if a ransom payment was made to secure their release. Ezeokafor was reportedly released near the Anambra-Enugu boundary at Ebenebe, where he was met by a family member.

The Anambra State Police Command confirmed the safe return of the victims and stated that investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances of their release. Commissioner of Police Nnanna Oji Ama has ordered intensified intelligence-led operations and a manhunt for the perpetrators. The security response involves a multi-agency effort including the Police, the Department of State Services (DSS), the military, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and Agunechemba security operatives.
