Jezioro Rożnowskie faces critical loss of water retention capacity
Parliamentary inquiries have been submitted to the Polish Ministry of Climate and Environment regarding the critical loss of water retention capacity in Jezioro Rożnowskie and Jezioro Czchowskie due to ongoing siltation.
Jezioro Rożnowskie, a vital reservoir for flood protection, water management, and local tourism in the Sądeczyna region, has seen its capacity significantly reduced over decades. Historical data suggests the reservoir's capacity dropped from 228 million cubic meters to 158 million cubic meters due to sediment accumulation.
Lawmakers, including Daria Gosek-Popiołek, are seeking information on whether the ministry is conducting analyses regarding the impact of siltation on regional water security. The inquiries also question if restoring the capacity of existing dammed reservoirs can be integrated into national climate change adaptation and water retention policies. Discussions are also focused on the potential for revitalization, dredging, and monitoring the ecosystem and water quality of these reservoirs.
