J&F Group approved to lease Terminal Gás Sul in Brazil
Brazil's Administrative Council for Economic Defense (Cade) has approved, without restrictions, the lease of the Terminal Gás Sul (TGS) by the J&F Group. The terminal is currently owned and operated by the U.S.-based company New Fortress Energy (NFE Power Latam Participações e Comércio).
Located in Babitonga Bay in São Francisco do Sul, Santa Catarina, the terminal serves as a maritime infrastructure for the docking and operation of Floating Storage and Regasification Units (FSRU). The facility is designed to receive, store, and regasify Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG). The infrastructure includes a pipeline system of approximately 32.6 kilometers and a custody transfer station in Garuva, which connects to the Bolivia-Brazil Gas Pipeline (Gasbol).
The terminal, which received an investment of R$ 500 million, has the capacity to regasify up to 15 million cubic meters of natural gas per day. It is currently the only regasification terminal located in southern Brazil. The lease is expected to support J&F's expansion in the natural gas sector and serve the energy needs of Âmbar, an energy company within the J&F Group.
