Jhandu Kumar wins Commonwealth Games bronze medal

Para powerlifter Jhandu Kumar won a bronze medal in the heavyweight category at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, lifting 190 kg.

Kumar, who previously worked as a vegetable seller and e-rickshaw driver, attributes 80-90% of his athletic development to the Sports Authority of India (SAI). He credited the National Centre of Excellence (NCoE) in Gandhinagar for providing essential resources, including high-quality diet, physiotherapy, disciplined coaching, and specialized training facilities. Since joining the SAI in 2023, Kumar reported significant performance improvements, noting that his bench press capacity increased from 50 kg to his competitive levels.
