Jhansi court cancels non-bailable warrant against Rakhi Sawant

A court in Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh, has cancelled a non-bailable warrant issued against television personality Rakhi Sawant regarding a 2010 suicide case. The warrant had been issued on October 16 after Sawant failed to appear for court hearings.

Sawant’s legal counsel, advocate Ashu Singh, moved an application to withdraw the warrant by presenting an earlier order from the Allahabad High Court. This High Court order had directed that no coercive action be taken against her in the matter. While the warrant has been withdrawn, the legal proceedings regarding the case are expected to continue.

The case stems from an episode of the television show ‘Rakhi Ka Insaaf’ aired in October 2010. Lakshman Ahirwar, a man who appeared on the program to discuss marital disputes, died by suicide following the broadcast. His family alleged that Sawant used insulting and objectionable language during the episode, which contributed to his depression and subsequent death.
