Jhansi police arrest five following transgender protest

Five individuals were arrested in Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh, following a protest by transgender persons that disrupted traffic and led to confrontations with police and commuters. The incident occurred on a busy road near the Police Lines, specifically between Elite Crossing and Jail Crossing.

According to police reports, the protest originated from a long-standing dispute between two transgender groups regarding the allocation of work areas in the Kocha Bhanwar locality. During the demonstration, protesters allegedly removed their clothing, used abusive language, and obstructed traffic. Some participants also reportedly assaulted commuters and manhandled police officers.

The arrested individuals include a group leader identified as Anshika, also known as Abhishek, along with Mamta, Russian Kinner, Pooja, and Balbir, also known as Babli. They have been charged under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
