Jharkhand athlete Amardeep Kumar struggles for employment despite winning four gold medals

Amardeep Kumar, a 29-year-old throwball player from Jharkhand, is struggling to secure stable employment despite winning four international gold medals for India. His achievements include victories at the Asian Junior Throwball Championship in Malaysia (2015), the Indo-Nepal Throwball Championship in Kathmandu (2017), and the South Asian Throwball Championships in Bengaluru (2019) and Ranchi (2026).

To support his family, Kumar currently works as a taxi driver and sells vegetables at Argora Chowk in Ranchi. He has reported that his attempts to secure government employment have been hindered by state sports policies, noting that while teammates from other states like Haryana and Bihar have obtained government positions, his own appeals for cash awards and jobs remain unaddressed. Kumar has also stated that he has had to take out loans to fund his participation in international tournaments.
