Jharkhand celebrates Karam festival honoring nature and culture

The Karam festival is being celebrated across Jharkhand, marking a significant occasion of nature worship, tribal culture, and the bond between brothers and sisters. The festival emphasizes the connection between human life and the environment, specifically focusing on the protection of forests, water, and land.

Chief Minister Hemant Soren highlighted the festival as a symbol of social unity and Jharkhand’s rich folk traditions. Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar also participated in celebrations in Bero, Ranchi, delivering messages on nature conservation.

Traditional rituals include the installation of a sacred Karam tree branch, community dances to the sounds of drums like the mandar and nagada, and folk singing. In many communities, women observe a Nirjala fast to pray for the prosperity and long life of their brothers. Various state-level cultural programs, including seminars and tribal fashion shows, have been organized to mark the occasion.
